Warmth was once reserved for royalty. This one was loomed by hand in Peru.
An oversized wrap scarf in 100% baby alpaca, made on a hand knitting machine by an artisan weaving collective in Peru. It is so light you forget it is there, and it holds the heat on the coldest nights. A soft loop-knit weave, a subtle tonal stripe and long fluffy fringe at both ends.
100% baby alpaca, hand-loomed in Peru
Oversized: 77 x 24 in, plus fringe. Wear it as a scarf or a shawl
Each one is one of a kind, with slight variations in tone and pattern
Limited quantity. Hand-loomed in small runs, so we only get a few at a time
In the Inca empire, alpaca was worn by royalty. It was valued as the finest fibre there was. It still is. The fashion world prizes it for a silky, luxurious feel, natural warmth, and a lower tendency to pill than ordinary wool.
The secret is inside the fibre. Alpaca has tiny air pockets that trap warmth without weight, so a scarf this big still feels feather light. Wrap it twice around your neck over a winter coat, or open it out across your shoulders by the window with your morning coffee.
Each scarf is made on a hand knitting machine by a weaving collective in Peru that works with around 80 small workshops and helps its weavers grow their own businesses. Because every piece is hand-loomed, no two are exactly alike.
The alpacas roam the highlands of the Peruvian Andes and are not harmed during shearing. Alpaca is a completely natural fibre, made without harsh chemicals.
Put it on once and every other scarf you own will feel like a compromise.
