Our story
Made for Mae
Every Wintermae piece starts with the same woman in mind. We call her Mae.
Mae is seventy-one. She lives in the house she raised her children in, on a street where the first frost arrives in October and does not leave until April. She uses a wheelchair, which means two things about winter that most people never have to think about. Her legs get cold first, because they are still. And every layer is a negotiation: tights that will not pull up, socks that slide down the moment she transfers to the car, gloves that slip on the wheel rims.
She also has a dog. His name is Walter, and he does not care that it is 19 degrees outside. He wants his walk at seven in the morning, the same as he did in July.
So every morning Mae gets dressed for a walk that nobody would blame her for skipping. That is the moment we design for. Not the ski slope. Not the mountain. The front step, the park loop, the quiet and ordinary bravery of going out anyway.
What that looks like
A legging that reads as sheer tights from across the room but keeps her warm to the ankle, with a waist that stays put when she moves from chair to car and back. Socks that stay up over the knee without squeezing. Gloves with grip for the rims and the lead, and fingertips that still answer the phone when her daughter calls. A jacket that is warm thirty seconds after she presses the button, because waiting for your body to catch up is a young person's game.
None of it looks like equipment. That is the point. Mae has spent enough years being handed things that look medical. She wants to look like herself: warm, put together, and out the door.
For Mae, and for everyone who loves one
If you are Mae, this is for you. If you have a Mae in your life, a mother, a grandmother, a neighbour who still walks her dog in the snow, you already know what to put in the box this year.
Wintermae is a small range on purpose: four pieces, chosen because they work together, made to last more than one winter. Everything ships from our US warehouse and arrives in 3 to 8 days. If the size is wrong, the exchange is free. If you have a question, write to hello@wintermae.com and a person will answer.
Stay warm. Go anyway.
